Swim Product Development Manager

Location: Vista, CA
Hours: Full-time

Summary

Under minimal supervision, the Swim Product Development Manager leads the research, definition, development, implementation and termination of products by performing the defined duties for the following swim product categories:

  • Learn to Swim
  • Training equipment
  • Swim Caps
  • Focus on meeting or exceeding our customer’s requirements for quality and product performance

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Product development:
  • Performs market research for new products through communication with sales, marketing, key partners, and by evaluating competitive products
  • Based on global market opportunities, recommend swim products for development (or provide product improvement ideas) with an global estimated sales projection
  • Work directly with Swim Business Line Manager for final line approval and maintain the 5 year product development schedule
  • Generate and distribute to affiliates the quarterly product development update report
  • Work with Marketing, Sales, and Product Designer to determine appropriate product features, styling, manufacturing materials, target retail prices, and associated costs
  • Communicate and coordinate with manufacturers, vendors and Aqua Lung China to identify best solutions for the global range based on minimum order quantities, costing and lead times
  • Negotiate costing with suppliers based on global production quantities
  • Responsible for coordinating the product development process for by prioritizing and tracking product development, documenting raw goods specifications, securing samples, and managing the raw goods first article process
Product Management:
  • Responsible for component part number creation (EAN and UPC codes for the group), raw goods specifications, samples and data base
  • Manage raw material quality control and first article process
  • Develops and maintains swim price lists, including International Product Line Summary (PLS)
  • Helps documentation control maintain accurate product codes including, product group/category, class code, salable indicator, costing, etc.
  • Works with Marketing to create and manage product launches and communications projects including sell sheets, catalog, and other sales copy
  • Responsible for communicating necessary updates to Marketing for the Aqua Sphere website
  • Work with Product Manager to coordinate appropriate product testing and ensure the appropriate documentation is generated
  • Work with the Engineering and Marketing, as appropriate, to ensure appropriate product improvement recommendations are evaluated and implemented prior to product launch
Packaging:
  • Define global packaging requirements, determine priorities, and coordinate with Marketing
  • Identify supplier minimum order quantities and organize/ consolidate group orders as necessary to meet supplier requirements
  • Responsible for defining, documenting and tracking packaging structural and graphic design requirements from point of inception to completion
Qualifications
  • Degree in Business or Marketing preferred
  • 5 years working experience in product management International work experience Consumer goods development experience a plus Excellent organization skills Good verbal and written communication skills Computer literate - Microsoft Office package (Word, Excel Spreadsheet, Power Point, and Outlook). ASI experience preferred Ability to effective interact and communicate with all levels of personnel Must be able to work in a fast paced environment and manage to meet tight deadlines
