When traveling with a full set of scuba gear, not all equipment is created equal. It comes with unique challenges: bulky items, strict baggage weight limits, and the need for total reliability far from any repair shop. Focus on compact gear that delivers the ideal balance between portability and high performance.

Here are the essential items to pack in your bag:

A compact, lightweight regulator: Opt for a compact first stage made with lightweight materials that still delivers top-notch performance. Braided hoses reduce overall weight and make packing much easier. Make sure to choose durable materials built to withstand the demands of travel.
A packable BCD: Choose a model specifically designed for travel with a streamlined profile and no unnecessary bulk. BCDs featuring a soft backplate can be folded flat or rolled up to save precious space. Flat dump valves also help reduce overall volume.
The right wetsuit: Select your suit thickness based on your destination's water temperature (a 3 mm or shorty for warm waters, 5 mm or thicker for cooler waters). Look for flexible, lightweight, and easily compressible neoprene with reinforced seams and heavy-duty zippers.
